High Tensile Steel Plates Suppliers, Immediate Supplies of High Quality High Strength Low Alloy (HSLA) Steel Plates
High-strength low-alloy steel (HSLA) is a type of alloy steel that provides better mechanical properties or greater resistance to corrosion than carbon steel. They have a carbon content between 0.05–0.25% to retain formability and weldability. Other alloying elements include up to 2.0% manganese and small quantities of copper, nickel, niobium, nitrogen, vanadium, chromium, molybdenum, titanium, calcium, rare earth elements, or zirconium.
HSLA steels have yield strengths greater than 275 MPa, or 40 ksi). The chemical composition of a specific HSLA steel may vary for different product thicknesses to meet mechanical property requirements. The HSLA steels in sheet or plate form have low carbon content (0.05 to −0.25% C) in order to produce adequate formability and weldability.
HSLA steels were originally developed in the 1960s for large-diameter oil and gas pipelines. The line pipe used in these projects required higher strength and toughness than mild carbon steel, and good weldability provided by a low carbon equivalent.
The oil & gas sector is still market where the most important applications for HSLA steels are found, but the automotive and the offshore & onshore structural engineering sectors now consume significant quantities of these alloys.
